Compared with global leaders, Chinese leading pet food companies have promising growth potential.
According to Pet Food Industry, the 2025 global pet food enterprise sales scale ranking has been released. Data shows that Mars Pet Care ranks first with a sales scale of $29.5 billion. In 2024, it was $22 billion, showing significant growth, which is likely due to the increment from newly acquired brands, potentially including the consolidation of brands like Orijen and Acana.
Nestlé Purina PetCare ranks second, with sales of $22.15 billion in 2025, a decrease from $22.457 billion in 2024, reflecting the intensity of market competition and the challenges faced by top-tier companies.
Hill’s Pet Nutrition ranks third, with sales rising from $4.483 billion to $4.613 billion; General Mills ranks fourth, with sales increasing from $2.376 billion to $2.5 billion.
J.M. Smucker’s sales were $1.63 billion, decreasing from $1.72 billion in 2024 to $1.63 billion, and its ranking dropped from 5th to 6th.
Meanwhile, Wanpy and Gembaby from China rank around twentieth, with revenue scales not exceeding $1 billion. Compared to leading pet food enterprises, their scale is relatively small. For reference, Unicharm from Japan has a pet food business scale reaching $1.01 billion.
Looking ahead, China’s leading pet food companies will continue to possess significant growth momentum for a long time. The massive domestic market and outward-looking export capabilities will continue to serve as the core of enterprise development. In the future, they will eventually enter the top five sequence.
